Miss Earth Ontario Preliminary Pageant and Greeting

Congratulations to the newly crowned Miss Earth Ontario 2012 Cynthia Loewen as well all the delegates for commiting to advocating for environmental issues and representing yourselves and your communiinites with grace and integrity. Cynthia and the finalists will represent Ontario at the national Miss Earth Canada Pageant this August where I will pass on my crown to a new national winner. I was unable to attend the Miss Earth Ontario pageant due to a scheduling conflict, and in lieu of my presence here is my greeting from the Miss Earth Ontario Pageant program:

“In the end we will conserve only what we love, we will love only what we understand, and we will understand only what we are taught.” –Baba Dioum (environmentalist)

In the past 7 months I have had the privilege to represent this environmental mantra on a local, national and international scale promoting environmental awareness as Miss Earth Canada 2011. It has been (and continues to be) an incredible journey. I am honoured to represent my country and the Miss Earth Canada Organization through my travels.

Travelling to the Philippines to compete at one of the worlds most prestigious pageants fulfilled a life long dream and further fuelled my passion for environmental awareness through education. This Journey could not have been possible without the support of many people. Firstly, Ronaldo Soriano Trono for being an incredible national director. Also to Ronaldo’s family for welcoming me into their home during my extended stay in the Philippines which made possible additional appearances such as speaking and interacting with students, touring a hospital (A special treat as an RN) as well as the privilege of visiting other beautiful sights of the Philippines.

Thank you to the entire MEC organization. A big thank you to Lisa Harrigan, for supporting me since the beginning and being a wonderful provincial director (and friend). My sponsors, Justin with Impact Nutrition for assisting me in achieving my physical fitness and nutritional goals (www.impactutrition.ca), Elexis Alvarado for creating a stunning evening gown and amazon costume for my on-stage presentation, Veneco Ely for designing a beautiful evening gown and oh la la divas for the evening dress. Thank you to my friends and family for continuing to support me and my passion even if it means less time with me when I am off travelling or making appearances. Last but not least to Davin, for the unwavering and unconditional love and support in all of my endeavours.

To all of the Miss Earth Ontario delegates, I encourage you to define your own success and utilize every aspect of this experience to learn and grow as a person. Remember that your commitment to environmental initiatives need not end with the pageant, but can continue to grow and have an ongoing impact if you chose to let it.

To the new Miss Earth Ontario titleholder and finalists- prepare yourselves for a life-changing opportunity. Embrace each moment, cherish the memories, and utilize this year to make a true difference. Define your year and represent pageantry in its true form through public service, personal growth and unwavering integrity.

Best of luck to each of you. Use this experience as a platform to build on your passions and commitment to caring for mother earth.

Much Love,
Ashlea Moor
